Abstract
This workshop included lessons learned from Guatemala Volcano Relief a session to build out best practices in tech utilization In June of 2018 the Fuego Volcano erupted in Guatemala killing hundreds if not thousands and displacing thousands of families primarily from poor farming communities The immediate response was so overwhelming that many working to assist did not know how to do so in an organized and coordinated way Many individuals and groups have come together to try and create plans to consolidate funding prioritize needs catalogue donated goods and formalize volunteerism With respect to technology volunteers donation centers and shelters used a number of ICTs Many duplicated efforts engineers tried to organize a hackathon individuals developed their own solutions with limited handoff and support planning The workshop ran through the disaster and technologies implemented social media WhatsApp custom platforms mobile apps ministry lead technologies etc the workshop leaders interacted with during and after the disaster from tech and health practitioner user perspectives Presented by Jade Parker Manderson Lead Medical Coordinator Esquintla Shelters and Christina Jeffrey CEO Co Founder TecSalud
