- ItemIntegration of information technology, wireless networks, and personal digital assistants for triage and casualty.(2006-08-31) Zhao, Xiaoming; Rafiq, Azhar; Hummel, Russel; Fei, Ding-Yu; Merrell, Ronald CThe purpose of this study was to evaluate a portable tool for use by first responders in documenting triage of victims in a mass casualty incident MCI more effectively The tool presented in this study allows first responders to gather patients vital signs injuries and triage status in a prompt and accurate way and enables first responders to wirelessly communicate vital health information throughout the entire care continuum The architecture infrastructure for the portable device is called Triage and Casualty Informatics Technology TACIT and can expedite triage transport and treatment procedures within an MCI TACIT was developed by integrating handheld devices wireless networks global positioning system GPS digital cameras and bar code scanners with customized triage software Two MCI initial field trials verified that the TACIT software battery life data accuracy and wireless transmission met the emergency response system requirements Initial field trials also demonstrated robustness of operation reduced triage collection time and improved collection accuracy The TACIT system could work as an efficient prehospital response tool and platform
- ItemInternet (WWW) based system of ultrasonic image processing tools for remote image analysis.(2003-06-11) Zeng, Hong; Fei, Ding-Yu; Fu, Cai-Ting; Kraft, Kenneth AUltrasonic Doppler color imaging can provide anatomic information and simultaneously render flow information within blood vessels for diagnostic purpose Many researchers are currently developing ultrasound image processing algorithms in order to provide physicians with accurate clinical parameters from the images Because researchers use a variety of computer languages and work on different computer platforms to implement their algorithms it is difficult for other researchers and physicians to access those programs A system has been developed using World Wide Web WWW technologies and HTTP communication protocols to publish our ultrasonic Angle Independent Doppler Color Image AIDCI processing algorithm and several general measurement tools on the Internet where authorized researchers and physicians can easily access the program using web browsers to carry out remote analysis of their local ultrasonic images or images provided from the database In order to overcome potential incompatibility between programs and users computer platforms ActiveX technology was used in this project The technique developed may also be used for other research fields
- ItemA telemedicine system for wireless home healthcare based on Bluetooth and the Internet.(2013-04-10) Zhao, Xiaoming; Fei, Ding-Yu; Doarn, Charles R; Harnett, Brett; Merrell, RonaldThe VitalPoll Telemedicine System VTS was designed and developed for wireless home healthcare The aims of this study were to design the architecture and communication methods for a telemedicine system to implement a physiologic routing hub to collect data from different medical devices and sensors and to evaluate the feasibility of this system for applications in wireless home healthcare The VTS was built using Bluetooth wireless and Internet technologies with client server architecture Several medical devices which acquire vital signs such as real time electrocardiogram signals heart rate body temperature and activity physical motion were integrated into the VTS Medical information and data were transmitted over short range interface USB RS232 wireless communication and the Internet The medical results were stored in a database and presented using a web browser The patient s vital signals can be collected transmitted and displayed in real time by the VTS The experiments verified no data loss during Bluetooth and Internet communication Bluetooth and the Internet provide enough bandwidth channels to tranmit these vital signs The experimental results show that VTS may be suitable for a practical telemedicine system in home healthcare
