- ItemComparison of different mobile telephones in Combi40+ users.(2006-06-28) Castro, A; Lassaletta, L; Bastarrica, M; Prim, M P; De Sarriá, M J; Gavilán, JCONCLUSION Telephone usage is a difficult challenge for cochlear implanted patients A significant number of cochlear implanted patients are able to carry on a land line or mobile telephone conversation The telephone model may be a critical factor for telephone performance OBJECTIVES The goals of this study were to evaluate speech discrimination through land line and mobile telephones in Combi40 users and to compare different mobile telephone models to find out which could be more advisable for them PATIENTS AND METHODS Eighteen Combi40 implantees were tested with CID sentences and bisyllabic words presented through land line and mobile telephones in both quiet and noisy environments RESULTS Mean scores for telephonic speech discrimination were over 85 for CID sentences and 28 59 for bisyllabic words The Siemens M55 was superior to the other mobile telephones tested
- ItemConstruction of a system for the access, storage and exploitation of data and medical images generated in radiology information systems (RIS).(2002-12-31) Pereira, J; Castro, A; Arcay, B; Pazos, AWe present the analysis design and implementation of a system that allows specialists at a medical centre to recuperate and manage information produced by computers that generate medical diagnosis images The main objective of the system is to define an architecture that provides doctors with an easy and centralized access to any information they may need and to allow users to access this information from the computers at the hospital itself as well as from remote locations which then require telemedicine sessions The architecture is built according to a layered and modular methodology which provides high scalability and interoperability with other information systems HIS RIS etc All the information is stored in a database not only the various image studies of the patient but also all data concerning the diagnosis and any comments the specialist may have made We have also incorporated tools that are not usually found in conventional systems image segmentation advanced visualization etc but that help the specialist with the decision making process
- ItemInfluence of digital and analogue cellular telephones on implanted pacemakers.(1997-11-24) Altamura, G; Toscano, S; Gentilucci, G; Ammirati, F; Castro, A; Pandozi, C; Santini, MThe aim of this study was to find out whether digital and analogue cellular phones affect patients with pacemakers The study comprised continuous ECG monitoring of 200 pacemaker patients During the monitoring certain conditions caused by interference created by the telephone were looked for temporary or prolonged pacemaker inhibition a shift to asynchronous mode caused by electromagnetic interference an increase in ventricular pacing in dual chamber pacemakers up to the programmed upper rate The Global System for Mobile Communications system interfered with pacing 97 times in 43 patients 21 5 During tests on Total Access of Communication System telephones there were 60 cases of pacing interference in 35 patients 17 5 There were 131 interference episodes during ringing vs 26 during the on off phase P Under 0 0001 106 at maximum sensitivity level vs 51 at the base value P Under 0 0001 Prolonged pacing inhibition 4 s was seen at the pacemaker base sensing value in six patients using the Global system but in only one patient using Total Access
