Abstract
This report out of the USAID Mobile Technology Meeting held in Tanzania in November 2012 was presented by Ishrat Husein of USAID at the January 22 2013 meeting of the mHealth Working Group The purpose of the meeting was to to share promising practices with respect to adopting using and scaling up mobile technologies to improve health outcomes and adopting broad multi sectoral programming to facilitate scale up and impact Participants at the USAID Mobile Technology Meeting included 1 Country teams from Angola Burkina Burundi DRC Guinea Kenya Malawi Madagascar Mozambique Nigeria Rwanda Togo Tanzania and Uganda 2 Regional programs from East and West Africa 3 Private companies Airtel Vodafone Vodacom Econet Dimagi World Health Partners Acumen and 4 Donors World Bank IFC Gates DfID Highlights of various mHealth programs in Africa were discussed as well as challenges and the way forward
